University researchers from M.I.T., Cornell University, and others, along with technology giants such as Intel and IBM are racing to develop energy efficient forms of blockchain, CNBC reports. Morgan Stanley, according to CNBC, pointed out that the original blockchain chews up more energy than Argentina consumes in a year when it runs its algorithm.  Researchers say energy efficiency is key to unleashing the full potential and power of blockchain, notes the report.
