Luxury car maker Porsche is testing blockchain applications in its cars, with an eye toward having the apps lock and open car doors to providing temporary access authorization, the company announced. Porsche is teaming up with XAIN, a Berlin-based startup, for the project and believes blockchain technology may also yield “new and improved business models through encrypted data logging.” Porsche also cites the potential for blockchain technology to improve autonomous driving functions, a move that potentially holds promise given the rapidly increased interest in autonomous driving.
