Ripple is committing $50 million in funding and other resources to a partnership with 17 universities worldwide.

The blockchain-based payments firm said on its website Monday the collaboration, called the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), would aim to to support and accelerate academic research, technical development and innovation in blockchain, cryptocurrency and digital payments.

Among the universities in the group are Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, University College London, Delft University of Technology (Netherlands) and MIT. Read more here.
