It says something about the growing clout of digital currency when the Gemini exchange announces it has hired the chief information officer of the New York Stock Exchange. Or maybe it says more about the Winklevoss twins, who run Gemini.
According to its announcement, Robert Cornish, who ran the technology team at the NYSE as CIO, will have the same role at Gemini Trust. He begins his new job later this month.
Cornish is not the first executive to jump on the cryptocurrency bandwagon. This year, former Goldman Sachs Executive Director Priyanka Lilaramani joined HOLD, a Maltese crypto startup, as CEO, Cointelegraph reported. Last year, the Coinbase exchange appointed former PayPal and Facebook executive David Marcus to its board of directors and more recently hired another NYSE executive as its head of finance.
