South Korea is ready to invest 5 trillion won, or $4.4 billion, next year in eight sectors it considers critical to the nation’s development, including blockchain.

The 5 trillion won investment budgeted for South Korea’s innovation program in 2019 is up 65 percent from this year’s budget amount, according to the Yonhap news agency.

CCN quotes the finance ministry’s website as saying the areas of big data, artificial intelligence and blockchain received 579.9 billion won ($511 million) in investment this year. Next year, the ministry will invest 1,040 billion won ($918 billion) in the sectors. Read more here.
