A Belgian think tank is going to recommend member nations of the European Union adopt one standard when it comes to regulating cryptocurrency exchanges. It is also going to advocate clearer regulations on initial coin offerings.
The report from the Brussels-based Bruegel, not made public, is expected to be given to EU ministers meeting Friday and Saturday in Vienna, according to Reuters, which said it has seen the report.
The possible expansion of the cryptocurrency exchange business in Europe and the increasing interest in ICOs in EU countries, is pushing regulators to take a closer look, Reuters reported.
But what of EU members, such as Malta, that are already implementing regulations as a way of drawing in more of these exchanges? According to Reuters, the report says that exchanges seeking jurisdictions with “lighter regulation” might need to be tolerated “to experiment and learn about the best approaches to this fast-developing technology.” Read more here.
