A survey from research firm YouGov has some good news if you are in the cryptocurrency business. The survey of over two million U.S. respondents found 79 percent are familiar with at least one kind of cryptocurrency, mainly with bitcoin (BTC).
Overall, according to the firm’s press release, men were found to be more likely than women to have heard of almost every kind of cryptocurrency. Thirty-six percent of those surveyed think cryptocurrencies will become widely accepted as a means of transaction for legal purchases within the next 10 years. Millennials, at 44 percent, were found to be the most likely of any age group to say cryptocurrency will be widely accepted.
At the same time, however, there were the 34 percent who do not think cryptocurrencies will become widely accepted within 10 years. That may be due to an image problem. The survey found 25 percent think cryptocurrencies are “used more for illegal purchases rather than legal ones. Only 17 percent think they’re used more for legal purchases,” say the survey’s authors.
