It’s official: “Blockchain” is more popular than “cryptocurrency,” at least as a search term on Google.
According to Google Trends, “blockchain” briefly overtook “cryptocurrency” for a short time in July but has been a more consistent attraction since September.
Trends only shows the relative popularity of a search term. “The resulting numbers are then scaled on a range of 0 to 100 based on a topic’s proportion to all searches on all topics,” Google explains in a post.
Still, when you consider Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase and Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs personally think cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin (BTC) are the bunk but blockchain is something their companies need to get into whole hog, the search trend shouldn’t completely surprise.
