Salesforce wants to help keep your inbox free of spam.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark office recently awarded the cloud-based customer relationship management firm a patent for its method of using blockchain technology to ensure the authenticity of emails you receive.

Here’s how it would work: First, a series of email servers would reach a consensus on what can be considered the true original email. When this is confirmed, it is recorded on a blockchain. Then the email would move on to secondary servers to confirm the email to be correct. If allowed, it goes to your inbox. If not, it goes to the spam folder.

However, as The Next Web reported, there are a number of ifs about this proposed system, starting with whether Salesforce customers already using the company’s products will be the only ones to benefit. Read more here.
